What are your most cherished memories?

No matter what your answer to this question is, wouldn’t it be safe to say it involves experiences you’ve shared with your family?

Absolutely.

Why is that?

Think about it. Out of all the people in this world, and in all the generations of humankind that have come and gone, there are only a few people we get to share a home with. Of all the billions of people, we have our personal crew. Our little band. These relationships are rare and limited.

And we live in a time when making lasting memories is all too easy.

But the ease of taking photos with our phones brings with it a false sense of security.

How many thoughtful photographs do you have of your entire family? Has it been a couple years? Maybe longer?

Let’s help you with that.

It’s a fact. Our kids and grandkids are growing and changing faster than the seasons. Their dreams and ambitions could take them across the world. Perhaps they already have.

Opportunities to gather together are fleeting and limited.

Can a price be placed on our time together?

Arranging family photos doesn’t have to be difficult. This can be done at your home. On your front steps. We can go to park with you. Meet you in the mountains. You can come to our studio. The import thing is that the photos are captured and displayed.

Capturing families enjoying their time together is a joyful spiritual practice for us, and look forward to assisting in preserving those priceless memories for generations to come!

Are you nervous?

We understand. Preparing for family pictures tends to stress people out. And this is unfortunate, because there’s really no need to over think this.

Are you dealing with whiners in the ranks? Complaining teenagers or maybe Hubby is grumbling he’s always being dragged into these things against his will?

The solution?

Bribes. Plain and simple. Nothing fosters compliance like an old fashioned pay-off.

Alrighty then. Now that you’ve set the terms and dealt with the nay-sayers, it’s time to deal with the question that plagues ALL mothers: What are we going to wear?

And more to the point – what are YOU going to wear?

Here’s a few tips that may help settle your nerves.

What’s the venue? Location is key when determining your outfits. Think about the vibe that your location puts off. Match the vibe of your location to your clothes. Beaches, for instance, would mean clothes that are carefree that keep the wind and the water and the waves in mind. A park location could be more of a playful outfit. Something super casual. If you’re planning urban or downtown, this might mean more hard lines that kind of match the structures of the buildings.

Mom comes first! Yes ladies, you’re the main attraction. And that’s a good thing. After all, you run the show day in and day out. So by golly, these pictures are going to illustrate that! Dress yourself first. Pick out your outfit and figure out what you're wearing first before everybody else. It's much easier when you know what you're going to wear to build around your outfit. All the color cues are going to come from the Queen, and that’s you, Mom.

So on that note, when picking your outfit try and accent the smallest part of you. Either your waistline or right under the chest. Pay attention to what shape your clothes are making on you. And don't hesitate to use vertical lines like a jacket over top of a shift dress or even a scarf to create a vertical line going down your body. It's super slimming, super flattering. There’s absolutely no reason not to feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. You are the BOSS, and let the whole world know!

Pick a palette. This is the easiest way to dress everybody. If you just pick two or three colors to stick with and some neutrals to dress your entire family. Also, don't be afraid to use pattern. You can mix small and larger patterns together as long as you stay in a similar color palette. Consider mixing textures in different kinds of fabric to create a layered look which is super flattering. With this approach, the image will be fun to view as eyes bounce from person to person because of all the variation in their outfits.

When do we get our prints? It generally takes about 3-4 days to edit the images and make sure they’re top notch and ready for printing. If you’re in a pinch for time, you can pay an additional charge to have them rushed. If you can, make sure to bring this up when you call to schedule your session!
